SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

Snorkelling

You can snorkel around the island yourself (although do go to the info/intro session first as there are strong currents in some places, so it pays to know where's safe!) and there are also boat trips, either half day (US$19 per person) or full day ($US39 per person, including barbecue lunch on a deserted island), to give you a chance to snorkel a little further away. There are also free "land tours" where one of the resort's snorkel guides takes a group of people to one of the snorkel spots around the island, and you have to have attended at least one of these before you can go on any of the boat trips. Night snorkel trips with lamps (US$10 per person) give you a chance to see the reef at night, when all sorts of different fish come out - we saw a HUGE (1.5m diameter) sting ray one night!

Scuba Diving

The resort has a 5-star PADI centre which has instruction for all levels and dive trips by boat every day. They also rent out all the equipment to you for reasonable prices, and it was all in very good condition. If you want to do a course that requires a certain number of dives, it's a good plan to book it as soon as you can after you arrive, because they sometimes take a couple of days to schedule the next dive and before you know it, it's the end of the holiday! We did the introductory dive on the Sunday and subsequently fitted in 3 more dives over the rest of that week. (If you're alreday PADI certified, there are plenty of boats going out to popular dive sites every day, so this wouldn't be a problem). There are some very beautiful dive sites in the Maldives!

Other things to do

Windsurfing, catamaran sailing, fishing, canoeing, tennis, badminton, table tennis, beach volleyball, football against the Maldivian staff...

Each evening there is an entertainment program of some sort in the Babuna Bar (maybe a music quiz, or a champagne evening, or... ) The staff also put on a cabaret once a fortnight which is well worth going to - very funny and much, much better than we expected it to be!

Overall, there's always something to do if you want to; on the other hand, there's always somewhere quiet to sit and read a book or snooze if you don't feel like being active.

Note: all prices were correct at the time we were there. They may have changed since then!
