Kuredu Island Resort, Maldives

You may have seen the note about the planned upgrades to the resort on the official Kuredu website and the negative comments in the guestbook. I was told by the Resident Manager while we were there that they put in a certain amount of money each year into improving the facilities and constantly upgrading. They have more or less reached the limit of what they can do by just "tinkering" and making small changes here and there, so they need to make some fairly large upgrades in order to keep the island up to scratch and maintain its position as a leading resort. So come on everyone, let's not blame them for not leaving well alone - let's give them the chance, try Kuredu again after the upgrades, and we might just find that we like it even more than we did before! Also the new rates are now available on the official website and it appears that they are very comparable to the current prices, so no worries about Kuredu suddenly becoming too expensive and losing regular visitors. The general manager assures me that Kuredu will keep its laid back and relaxed atmosphere and I'm sure he is right!

[Note: a previous version of this page included a comment that the upgrades are required by a contract between the Kuredu management and the Maldivian government. I am happy to withdraw that statement as I have been corrected by a nice e-mail from the general manager pointing out that no such requirement exists, and the upgrades are entirely at the choice of the Kuredu management. Apologies for the previous incorrect information.]
